Industry representatives and government agencies of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam attended the 3-day ARCP and Risk Assessment Workshop on September 24- 26, 2019 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The first two days were devoted to the discussion on the work done by the Sub-Committees on Chemical Inventory and Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) including the regulatory updates from its of the ASEAN Member States (AMS) and Australia. Engr. Wilma Uyaco, OIC of the Licensing and Permitting Division of the EMB- NCR and Ms. Thelma Perez of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) presented the policy updates of their respective agencies.
SPIK was a member in the two sub-committees; chemical inventory and GHS and shared the industry’s experiences and accomplishment in the implementation of GHS through the poster sharing session allotted for each of the AMS. Participants were given the opportunity to visit each booth and it was an opportunity as well to know the efforts done by each country on GHS.
A breakout session was also conducted to assess the alignment of Thailand’s and Vietnam’s chemical inventory laws to the ASEAN Guidance Document on Developing a Chemical Inventory.
Risk assessment training was done on the third day of the program. Mr. Gaurav Chugh Senior Toxicologist of Procter & Gamble and Dr. Shao Jia of Shell discussed human toxicology and environmental toxicology respectively while Steven Zou facilitated the discussion on the use of Prioritization Tool using the ECHA website information.
