The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) is an internationally agreed-upon system, created by the United Nations beginning in 1992. It was designed to replace the various classification and labeling standards used in different countries by using consistent criteria on a global level.


As part of the efficient and effective implementation of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and labelling of Chemicals (GHS), the Samahan sa Pilipinas ng mga Industriyang Kimika (SPIK) invited by the Chemrez Technologies, Inc. to conduct a GHS Awareness Seminar on their company.


The first batch of the workshop held last May 27, 2016 with 27 participants from different division of the company. The second batch was held last July 7, 2016 with 21 participants. They were still waiting for the schedule of the third batch.


Speakers are members of the SPIK Responsible Care Council. Mr. Derrick Clarin discussed the introduction and overview of GHS, Ms. Dall Palisoc provided an overview of the physical, health and environmental while Ms. Cynthia Reyes gave an in depth discussion of Safety Data Sheet and Labels. The highlight of the seminar was the discussion of the overview of the general rule, requirements and procedures in the Guidance Manual that will take effect in 2016.
